How would you describe the surfing in Bali?

In the 1930s surfers discovered the waves in Bali. Bali draws in surfers of all experience levels. If you want beginners surfers lessons Bali’s got it. If you want challenging waves, Bali’s got them too. Of course, there are always crowds in Bali, but that cannot be helped considering the beautiful island scenery and great waves. The best time for surfing in Bali is when the water temperature is around 80 degrees Fahrenheit (27-29 degrees Celsius).  This temperature occurs between the months of May and September, which also happen to be the time when the island has the most tourists.

Uluwatu is one of surfing's great waves. Waves can get huge there; just make sure to check surf reports and forecasts before you grab your board. Another great surfing spot for more experienced surfers is Padang Padang, this surfing spot has surf reports detailing waves averaging four feet and above, not to mention the beautiful scenery. Bingin is a more relaxed surf spot, with waves that keep coming, but not as challenging or large as Uluwatu or Padang Padang. This spot also contains a potentially dangerous reef for surfers to watch out for; it is especially dangerous when the water is low. Also, expect the usual Bali crowds.

Kuta Beach is a surf spot which is also highly popular with tourists. It’s a great spot for those who want to learn surfing. The sand is soft and there are no reefs or dangerous obstacles for beginners to watch out for; instead, the beginners can focus entirely on learning to surf. Another great spot is Keramas, but this place is ideal for more experienced surfers. The swells are constant, but this place has a reef that can be dangerous. Also, this spot isn’t as crowded as others.

The locations that are listed above are only a few of the many great surfing spots that are on the island. Bali is a small island with great scenery and wonderful for surfing. Just be careful of the reefs, check the surf reports and forecasts to see what exactly the waves are in those places for that day. Also, make sure to be aware of just how crowded these places may be. It is an island paradise after all, which everyone wants to escape to at some point. Bali is a great surfing location for beginners and experts alike. Whether you are looking to take a fun first lesson or get the barrel of your life, Bali has it.
